Carol Miller is a public health activist who has been living in a frontier mountain village in northern New Mexico for the past 34 years. Miller received a BA in Art from Wheaton College in Massachusetts and a Masters in Public Health from the University of California at Berkeley. She has a post-graduate Certificate in Bioethics from Georgetown University.
In 1993, Miller served as a Presidential Appointee to the White House Health Care Task Force headed by Hillary Clinton. She was also a Presidential Appointee in the Reagan Administration where she worked in the US Public Health Service. Miller was appointed to the Commission on Higher Education in 2004 by Governor Richardson.
Miller was an Emergency Medical Technician for thirteen years, learning first hand about the health crisis as it affects individuals, families, and communities. She has won numerous New Mexico and national awards recognizing her accomplishments in rural and public health.
Miller is the founder and current Executive Director of the National Center for Frontier Communities, a national organization based in northern NM dedicated to economic health for the smallest and most isolated areas of the United States.
Miller is a Commissioner of the Acequia de Ojo Sarco. Her work is dedicated to peace, social and economic justice and human rights.
